About the Project

A peaceful rural retreat designed to embrace the natural surroundings, offering a tranquil escape with thoughtful design and local materials. The project celebrates the simple beauty of rural Kerala, creating a home that is deeply connected to its site and local building traditions. The design approach prioritizes sustainability and minimal environmental impact, using locally sourced materials, traditional construction techniques, and passive cooling strategies. The building sits lightly on the land, with careful attention to preserving existing trees and natural features that define the site's character. Simple, honest materials like exposed brick, wood, and clay tiles create a warm, unpretentious aesthetic that feels at home in the rural context. Large covered verandas, courtyards, and gardens extend the living space outdoors, encouraging a lifestyle that is in harmony with nature and the rhythms of rural life.
